We discussed many current and potential umpire gear products that I'll discuss in greater detail in another post, but the one current exciting possibility is a longer size option for the Platinum and/or Gold Umpire Chest Protector. Not an extension (considered previously), but a longer size option for you taller guys who feel your ribs are not covered well with the current Platinum or Gold sizing. Go ahead. I'll pause while you celebrate.

I'll hit you with another exciting news piece and that is making one (or both) of them longer would be a rather simple design change to the lower plate and padding. And simple means fast as in early 2012 fast!

When they are available, sales will be tested only through ump-attire.com for 2012, just as the smaller and larger size options of the A3417 Charcoal Shin Guards were this year.

So what are they waiting for? Well, they are waiting for you to calm down and tell them what you think. So what do you think? Which chest protector do you want longer and what size would you prefer? 14"? 15"? Or something in between?

Platinum at 15 inches
Dissatisfied with the 12" Gold Vest, after a couple of shots to the stomach, I personally e-mailed "Cowboy Joe West" and asked him why a longer CP was not available. He explained there was insufficient demand? I bought a 17" Champion. It would take at least a 15" Wilson Platinum or Gold vest to ever get me back wearing one again!

I'd buy a 15" Platinum for sure. I'm 6'2" and big, so the current version leaves a lot of body exposed.
As others have said we need a longer CP. I have the WVP. I love it and would not use anything else since I have switched to it 3 seasons ago it is great protection. But need that little extra protection for the Body exposed. Have only take one shot to the stomach but Then that could of been my fault for maybe being out of postion or too open. I am 5'9" but a 14" Platinum would be great.

As other comments have stated, I would love a longer 15" . I have a current standard vest and I just can't wear it any more. It seems that I get hit in the stomach too many times and I had to go back to the old reliable Pos + vest I had.
i currently use a douglas 15" , and also own the older design champion P200 hardshell , which i believe is stated as 17" . im 6'4" and nothing shorter than 15" would work for my size . i hope wilson goes with 15" !

Applause, Applause, Applause.... Happy you have decided to make an extended size.... I am 6'-6" and that shorter body style was killing me... I do a lot of youth games, so I don't get the convenience of catcher coverage... hence get pounded in the lower abdominal area..... Can't wait for it to be released.... Thanks you for listening!!!
Thanks everyone for their feedback. I have shared all of your thoughts word for word with Wilson as well as my recommendations.
The longer Gold and/or Wilson continues to be in the works although I do not have specifics at this time.
I do about a hundred games behind the dish a year. The shorter platinum is a concearn for me being a bigger guy a 15 to 16 inch size would great for me.
I wil buy the 14" Gold the day it's available for sale!
Any update? Will the longer protector be available this year.
Very sorry but we have not received any recent updates from Wilson. They have promised to contact us as soon as they have some projected dates, but for now, still no word. ~Anessa
